Saul Vendel is the sole survivor of the S.S. Wandering Compass, a messenger ship that was part of the Hermes Courier out of Hades 13. At one time Saul was nothing more than a boy who grew up with computers and knew how to manipulate them for his parents' ship. He and his brother and sister would travel with their parents, helping them with the family business. That all changed though on a routine flight to Earth's system.

The S.S. Wandering Compass was delivering a basic load of data messages from the Hades system when the infamous Aifor Raider Ship decimated Saul's family vessel. Luckily for the boy, he was able to get himself to a freeze chamber (cryo-"disposal" unit ) before his parents' ship was destroyed. Afterwards, he was picked up by the Steel Witch, a Terran Alliance Marshal ship that was on the hunt for the Aifor. After thawing him out, the space law enforcement team was able to hunt down the Aifor, and with the help of Saul, manipulate their ship to work against them. Now Saul has found himself amidst the deep recesses of space with nothing more than the Steel Witch to claim as some sort of home. He struggles to learn about the universe, and understand where his part in it may be.

Saul, March 30th, 2525

Saul is a tragic soul, caught in the middle of a galaxy torn by violence. Since being rescued by the crew, Saul has tried to maintain his good heart, but is confused by the crew and their violent occupation. Though as trying as these times may be, Saul is never one to say no with any assistance needed with computers and robotic repair. He is a child prodigy and will be very successful in his technological endeavors, should he chase them once he settles down.  

Major Accomplishments: Assisting in the warrants of Captain Bothvar Haklang

Fighting off the crew of Edna's Dishonor with only the basic weaponry of a space station

Misdeeds/Errors: Saul held his tongue on Ophion after noticing a possible distress signal due to his fear of what might be waiting when they responded.

He's also nearly killed half of the crew while fighting off the pirates of Edna's Dishonor by opening a space hatch in order to destroy boarded enemies.

Current Plot: Saul is still trying to find his place in the world after being orphaned due to Aifor pirates. While he's assisted with the Steel Witch crew after they'd rescued him, Saul's place with them is uncertain.

In Another Life
Saul rested on the leather recliner while watching Lydia try to beat the Zorgon of level 12. She was his sister now, as bad as she was at video games, and Saul looked forward to spending time with her whenever he could. The maids, schedules and tutors were something Saul could live without, but Lydia no doubt was his best friend. The two did everything together.

It had been nearly two months since Saul last heard a laser blast or the explosion of a space craft. The memories terrified him. He never wanted to be some great adventurer, but then again, he never wanted his family murdered. The crew of the Steel Witch not only saved him, but gave him a new lease on life. He knew that now.

If not for the efforts of a grizzly bunch of law enforcers, Saul would either still be floating in a freeze capsule along the Crux-Scuttum space ways or dead. Sure they weren't exactly family material, but the Marshal and his deputies were the good guys. No, not like knights in shining armor, but good nonetheless.

Saul wondered what they were up to now. Last time he spoke with them they were headed to Hades 13. He was originally from there and remembered how lawless the area could be. They wouldn't be welcomed for sure. Still, much as they'd tried to instill in their little Space Monkey, the crew of the Steel Witch were fearless, and wouldn't let a few challenges get in their way.

"Yeah," Saul thought, "I'm sure I haven't heard the last of the crew of the Steel Witch. In fact, I doubt anyone in the galaxy has."
